For all those still evenings
and starry nights,
When authors whispered in our ears:
their stories. their memories.
And we let out a tear
Or shivered in fear.
They became a part of me and you;
Like someone whom we already knew.
Swami from Malgudi Days or the blind girl in Ruskin’s The night in the train were now our companions. Suppandi or Shikari Shambu when younger were our play mates
As we grew, our friends were different but we still lived in the same colony of books.
Happy World Book Day to everyone who lives in the magical world of books and stories.
