An old memory? Something to ponder on ? Or may be something to complain about ?
What would you do if you had an inspiration to write and one minute for it. Challenging? Interesting ? fun?
OneMinuteWriter challenges you to write everyday for a minute. And what will you write on? The prompts that C. Beth thinks of everyday. Check http://oneminutewriter.blogspot.com for her prompts and write!
Personally, I feel they are creative and touch every one’s life. and the slogan is teasing “You have 1440 minutes to write, use one of them to write”
So, here’s C. Beth, who encourages everyone to write for a minute, the personality of the month for October.
1. How did you think of this idea of starting a blog?
Beth: I was already writing a “mommy blog” (http://cbethblog.blogspot.com.) But there are so many mom blogs, and I knew my audience would probably be naturally limited. I wanted to start a blog that was more unique and might garner a larger audience. I did some brainstorming, and I ended up deciding to pursue the idea of a writing prompt blog with a one-minute timer. Most of us are busy, but I figured nearly everyone can spare a minute to write!
2. How do you come up with prompts, everyday? any inspiration.
Beth: I usually just sit and let my mind wander. I look around the room and think about my day and things I’ve done, read, seen on TV, etc. I guess it’s just stream-of-consciousness brainstorming!
3. Do you think people in general have a story to share but are lazy enough? Any message or tips for them to write regularly
Beth: I do think most people have a story to share, but I don’t think most people avoid writing due to laziness. I think it’s an interest, just like running or sewing or target shooting or basketweaving! We should write because we want to write. For someone who has an interest in writing, specific goals are important. For quite some time, I blogged six days a week on my mommy blog. I had that commitment to myself and my readers, and it helped me grow as a writer. (Eventually I had other interests and needed to write less frequently, but that’s okay too—we all have different “seasons.”)
4. How has your experience been so far?
Beth: Blogging has helped me be more disciplined as a writer than ever before. It’s also helped me to document our family’s life. I’m so glad that my kids and I will be able to look back at my blog in the future. It’s a way to remember these precious days and years.
5. Life, post- and pre- One minute writer
Beth: Before The One-Minute Writer I was “just another mommy blogger.” Now it’s nice that I have a blog that’s unique enough to stand out! Even though readers come and go, I think the blog itself is memorable. A few months after I started it, The One-Minute Writer was named the daily “Blog of Note” by Blogger. Suddenly, the number of readers and participants skyrocketed! Readership gradually waned, and eventually settled at the point where there are always several loyal readers/participants, with new ones coming in and out all the time. I’ve had to learn that my self-worth isn’t tied to how many blog readers I have! I always hope that by being disciplined and consistent, I’ll be a blogger who will continue to reach more people.
6. Alright Beth, I have a prompt for you. You can take a minute to write.
Today’s Prompt: You have to urge every sleeping writer to wake up.
Beth: Wake up, wake up, eyes open!
Pick up a pencil or a pen!
Open your heart and your mind
Perhaps inspiration you will find.
(Hey, a 60-second poem isn’t expected to be Shakespeare, right?)
And take a minute. here is the timer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekRZot2CFzM&feature=player_embedded
Me: Thank you Beth!
Beth: And thank you!
